🜍 BIRTH — WEEK 3 (World of Darkness) Mara & Chibi When Spring Starts to Watch Spring is louder now. Too loud. Not birds. Not wind. Everything at once. Mara walks along the cemetery path, her bare feet brushing the grass. The grass brushes back. She stops. “Chibi…” “Yeah.” “The grass is weird.” He nods. “Everything is weird now.” The hole from yesterday is gone. Not filled. Grown over. Small yellow flowers now cover the spot, packed too tightly together, petals pressing into each other like they don’t have space to exist. “That wasn’t there before,” Mara says. “Nope.” Chibi crouches lower. “They’re new.” “They’re too new.” He lowers his stick. The flowers tilt. All of them. Toward it. Mara steps back. “Okay… no.” Chibi doesn’t move. “They’re not just growing,” he says. “They’re looking.” A dog stands at the edge of the path. Still. Watching. Not them. The ground. It whines. Then runs. Fast. Wrong direction. Mara watches it go. “Animals don’t run like that.” Chibi nods. “They do when something’s watching them first.” The air feels thick. Too sweet. Hard to breathe. Mara wraps her arms around herself. “Do you feel that?” “Yeah.” “Like it’s too much.” The grass shifts again. Following. Just slightly. But enough. Mara swallows. “You said it forgot the rules.” Chibi shakes his head. “No.” “What?” He finally looks at her. “I think it’s making new ones.” A branch lowers above them. Too low. Leaves brushing her shoulder. It doesn’t move back. It stays. The flowers turn again. Not to the sun. To them. Mara takes another step back. “Chibi…” “Yeah.” “I don’t like this.” He watches the ground carefully. For once, no grin. “It’s not wrong anymore,” he says quietly. “What do you mean?” “It knows what it’s doing.” The sound of insects rises. Louder. Closer. The whole place feels tighter. Smaller. Like the space between things is closing. Mara grips his sleeve. “We should go.” Chibi nods. “Yeah.” They move. The grass follows just a little too long with every step. At the street, the air feels normal again. Mara turns back. The cemetery looks the same. Flowers. Trees. Sunlight. Beautiful. Still. “Chibi?” “Yeah?” She hesitates. “What does it want?” He looks back at the ground. At the place where everything moved. Then quietly: “I don’t think it knows yet.” A pause. “But it’s learning.” 🜍 BIRTH — WEEK 3 The world is not just growing. It is not just healing. It is beginning to pay attention. 🜍 One theme.
