Caelwyn: They closed the street.
Stacy: Which one?
Caelwyn: The same district.
The rain had stopped, but the city hadn’t relaxed. March had a way of doing that—making everything look softer while tightening something underneath.
Stacy flipped her notebook open.
Stacy: The reports changed.
Caelwyn: How?
Stacy: They stopped describing damage.
Caelwyn: And started?
She looked up.
Stacy: Movement.
A police car rolled past outside without a siren.
Too slow.
Too quiet.
Caelwyn: That’s not infrastructure.
Stacy: No.
Caelwyn: That’s response.
She turned the notebook toward him.
Lines drawn across the district.
All leading inward.
Caelwyn: That’s not how water behaves.
Stacy: No.
Caelwyn: That’s not how collapse behaves either.
Stacy: No.
A pause.
Caelwyn: That’s intention.
The word didn’t belong in the room.
But it stayed anyway.
Stacy: The incidents are getting closer together.
Caelwyn: Toward what?
She tapped the center of the map.
Stacy: Here.
Outside, the streetlight flickered once.
Then steadied.
Caelwyn: During the war, they sealed things beneath that district.
Stacy: Yes.
Caelwyn: We assumed it was containment.
Stacy: That’s what the files say.
Caelwyn: Files say a lot of things.
She closed the notebook slowly.
Stacy: Caelwyn…
Caelwyn: Yes?
Stacy: What if it wasn’t containment?
He looked out at the wet pavement.
For a moment, the puddle below the streetlight shifted.
Not from wind.
Not from traffic.
Just enough to notice.
Caelwyn: Then it was waiting.
A distant siren started—and stopped again.
Stacy: The city thinks this is under control.
Caelwyn: The city thinks a lot of things.
She studied the map one last time.
Stacy: It’s not spreading.
He reached for his coat.
Caelwyn: No.
Stacy: Then what is it doing?
He opened the door.
Cold air moved into the room.
Caelwyn: It’s arriving.
