🜍 BIRTH — WEEK 2 Caelwyn & Stacy When Creation Turns
Spring smells different in New Orleans.
Not cleaner.
Not brighter.
Just… restless.
Warm air moves across the Mississippi, carrying the scent of wet soil and flowering trees. The city wakes the way it always does this time of year — slowly, reluctantly, as if remembering something it once knew how to do well.
Stacy leans against the river railing, notebook open.
“People think spring means renewal,” she says.
Caelwyn watches the water move beneath the levee.
“They want it to.”
She turns a page filled with notes.
“In mythology, rebirth is always sacred.”
“Osiris.”
“Persephone.”
“Resurrection.”
He nods once.
“Every culture believes the same thing.”
“That life begins again.”
The river keeps moving.
Stacy closes the notebook halfway.
“But that assumes the system is healthy.”
Caelwyn glances at her.
“And if it isn’t?”
She looks toward the old city behind them.
“Then birth doesn’t become renewal.”
Her finger traces a line of notes on the page.
“Invasive species.”
“Genetic engineering.”
“Artificial ecosystems.”
“Technologies that grow faster than we understand them.”
Every example begins with the same promise:
Improvement.
Progress.
A better future.
But somewhere in the process, the growth stops serving its purpose.
It mutates.
Escapes.
Overreaches.
Creation becomes distortion.
Caelwyn watches the warm wind ripple across the water.
“So spring still comes.”
“Yes.”
“Life still begins.”
“Yes.”
He turns toward the city.
“But something in the cycle is wrong.”
Stacy nods slowly.
“The world still knows how to create.”
She closes the notebook.
“It just doesn’t remember how to stop.”
