Sean exhales slowly.

“People hesitate.”

“Yes.”

“They adjust.”

“Yes.”

“They make mistakes.”

“He doesn’t.”

They begin walking.

Not following.

Just staying close enough.

The man picks up an apple.

Turns it in his hand.

Too long.

“Observation,” Eljara whispers.

He bites.

Chews.

Swallows.

Pauses.

Just for a moment.

---

Sean’s eyes narrow.

“There.”

“Processing.”

The man resumes eating.

Now smoother.

More natural.

---

“He’s learning,” Sean says.

---

“Yes.”

---

The man suddenly turns.

Looks directly at them.

No delay.

---

Recognition.

---

Eljara freezes.

“Do not react.”

The man walks toward them.

Measured steps.

Calm.

---

Sean smiles slightly.

“Afternoon.”

---

“Afternoon,” the man replies.

Perfect.

---

Too perfect.

---

Eljara studies his eyes.

“They’re adapting.”

The man tilts his head.

“Adapting?”

No hesitation.

No gap.

---

Sean shrugs.

“New place,” he says.

The man considers that.

Actually considers it.

Then nods.

“Yes.”

Something shifts.

---

Not outside.

---

Inside him.

---

Eljara’s voice drops.

“That’s bad.”

Sean nods.

“I know.”

The man looks at both of them.

Carefully.

---

“Are you from here?” he asks.

---

Normal question.

Wrong intent.

---

“Passing through,” Sean says.

The man smiles.

---

This time…

closer.

---

“Good,” he says.

---

A pause.

---

“More variables.”

---

Silence.

---

The street continues.

No one notices.

No one sees it.

“It knows.”

The man turns.

Walks away.
