The last boundary stone was pulled from the earth.
A new road would make the journey easier.
The villagers applauded.
Eljara:
“It’s a better road.”
Sean:
“It is.”
She smiled.
Eljara:
“The village will prosper.”
Sean:
“I hope so.”
An old man stood beside the broken stone.
His hand rested on the weathered carving.
His lips moved silently.
Then he walked away.
Eljara:
“What’s he doing?”
Sean:
“Saying goodbye.”
She frowned.
Eljara:
“To a stone?”
Sean brushed the moss from the broken marker.
Sean:
“May I ask you something?”
Eljara:
“Always.”
Sean:
“Why does a village place a boundary stone?”
She shrugged.
Eljara:
“So people know where the road begins.”
Sean nodded.
Sean:
“And where it ends.”
A pause.
Sean:
“But why mark the border at all?”
Silence.
Eljara:
“I don’t know.”
The workers attached their ropes.
The old stone toppled.
The road was finally complete.
The wind changed.
Not colder.
Not stronger.
Just…
different.
Every bird in the forest fell silent.
At once.
Eljara:
“Did you hear that?”
Sean:
“No.”
She looked at him.
Eljara:
“No?”
His eyes remained fixed on the dark trees.
Sean:
“That’s exactly what I heard.”
Far inside the forest…
something answered.
Not a howl.
Not a roar.
Something older.
Something that should have remained only a story.
Eljara:
“So the legends were true.”
Sean slowly shook his head.
Sean:
“No.”
Eljara:
“No?”
He looked at the empty place where the stone had stood for centuries.
Sean:
“The legends were never written to frighten children.”
A long silence.
Sean:
“They were written…”
The forest remained impossibly still.
Sean:
“…so adults would remember where not to build.”

⚖️ Week 4 — The Last Boundary Stone
Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 4th Edition
Sometimes the oldest monuments are not monuments at all.
They are the last quiet reminders that someone, long ago, already learned the lesson we are about to repeat.
If you remember what this felt like—
you already know what you’re missing.
Step back into it.
Or keep missing it.
