The battle was lost.

Everyone knew it.

Soldiers were already leaving the line.

Then…

one battered rider appeared through the smoke.

Eljara:
“That’s their commander?”

Sean:
“Looks like what’s left of him.”

The rider passed the fleeing soldiers.

But he didn’t threaten them.

He didn’t order them back.

He simply rode toward the enemy.

Eljara:
“He’s going the wrong way.”

Sean:
“No.”

A pause.

Sean:
“Everyone else is.”

The commander dismounted.

Planted his broken standard in the mud.

And stood.

Eljara:
“That’s his plan?”

Sean:
“For the moment.”

The enemy advanced.

Thousands of them.

The commander drew his sword.

Eljara:
“That’s suicide.”

Sean:
“Maybe.”

Then something happened.

One fleeing soldier stopped.

Looked back.

And returned.

Then another.

A woman picked her shield out of the mud.

A wounded spearman limped back toward the banner.

Eljara:
“Why are they going back?”

Sean:
“Because he went first.”

She looked at him.

Eljara:
“That’s enough?”

Sean:
“Sometimes.”

He watched the soldiers gathering around the commander.

Sean:
“You can tell a thousand people…”

“Stand.”

“…and they may run.”

“You can tell them…”

“Be brave.”

“…and they’ll still be afraid.”

“But stand where you’re asking them to stand…”

A pause.

Sean:
“…and suddenly your words weigh differently.”

The commander shouted.

One soldier answered.

Then ten.

Then hundreds.

Then thousands.

The broken line began reforming.

Shields locked.

Spears lowered.

The enemy charged.

And the line…

held.

Eljara:
“One man did that.”

Sean shook his head.

Sean:
“No.”

Eljara:
“I just watched him do it.”

Sean:
“You watched him strike the spark.”

He pointed toward the thousands standing behind the broken banner.

Sean:
“The fire…”

“…was already inside them.”

Eljara:
“So that’s zeal?”

Sean:
“That’s how it begins.”

She watched the army roar.

Eljara:
“Imagine what you could accomplish…”

“…if you could make thousands believe like that.”

Sean’s expression changed.

Sean:
“Yes.”

Eljara:
“Why did you say it like that?”

Sean looked toward the distant horizon.

Another column of smoke.

Another army.

Another banner.

Sean:
“Because once you discover…”

“…that one fire can ignite thousands…”

A long silence.

Sean:
“…the next temptation…”

“…is deciding…”

“…what they should burn for.”

🔥 Month 8 — The Inner Fire
Week 2 — When the Line Stood
Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 4th Edition

Leadership is not putting fire into people.

The fire was already there.

Fear.

Duty.

Love.

Faith.

Loyalty.

Hope.

A leader can do something far more powerful:

make thousands recognize their own fire in someone else’s.

That force can hold a line that should have broken.

It can save a city.

Build a kingdom.

Begin a crusade.

Or raise a horde.

Because once one fire can ignite thousands, the question changes.

Not:

Can they be made to follow?

But:

Where will they be led?

If you remember what this felt like—

you already know what you’re missing.

Step back into it.

Or keep missing it.
