🜍 PULP CTHULHU — THE OLD BARGAINS · WEEK 1 The Flower Crown
The crown appeared on Monday.
Nobody saw who made it.
Nobody saw who left it.
Yet every morning it waited on the old stone in the village green.
Fresh.
Perfect.
Covered in summer flowers.
Bluebells.
Daisies.
Poppies.
Buttercups.
Flowers that should never bloom together.
Yet somehow they did.
Mara thought it was beautiful.
Chibi thought it was weird.
Both were right.
The day the crown appeared, the valley changed.
Gardens flourished.
Trees bent beneath heavy fruit.
Flowers exploded across every field.
People smiled more.
Worked less.
Laughed easier.
For one perfect day—
summer felt endless.
Then came the second day.
The growth continued.
Faster.
Stronger.
Hungrier.
Hedges swallowed fences.
Roots cracked stone.
Vines climbed walls overnight.
Nobody complained.
Except the old gardener.
“What’s wrong?” Mara asked.
The old man stared at a hedge growing far too quickly.
“People think growth is always good.”
He touched a blossom.
“Growth doesn’t care.”
A pause.
“It just grows.”
On the third morning the flower crown returned again.
Fresh.
Perfect.
Waiting.
This time neither child touched it.
The sunlight felt too bright.
The air felt too heavy.
Then they heard singing.
Far away.
Deep within the forest.
Beautiful.
Ancient.
Impossible.
A chorus welcoming something home.
Mara looked toward the trees.
“So…”
Chibi nodded.
“Yeah.”
“The crown wasn’t a gift.”
The singing grew louder.
Flowers opened across the meadow.
Thousands of them.
All at once.
And somewhere in the woods—
something old began walking toward the village.
