MONTH 9 — THE MONTH OF ABUNDANCE WEEK 1 — ABUNDANCE — DEFINITION

The table is full.

Bread. Apples. Cheese. Food for far more than two people.

CAELWYN:
Are we expecting someone?

STACY:
Eventually.

CAELWYN:
How many?

STACY:
I don’t know.

CAELWYN:
You prepared food for people who may not exist?

STACY:
I prepared enough in case someone comes.

Caelwyn sits.

CAELWYN:
Abundance.

STACY:
What does that mean?

CAELWYN:
Having more than you need.

STACY:
Ask a vampire.

CAELWYN:
Enough blood?

STACY:
And tomorrow?

CAELWYN:
Hungry again.

STACY:
Exactly.

CAELWYN:
So a vampire can have plenty without ever feeling they have enough.

STACY:
Now ask a Garou.

CAELWYN:
Enough healthy land. Enough sacred places. Enough allies. Enough time.

STACY:
A changeling?

CAELWYN:
Enough Glamour.

He pauses.

CAELWYN:
No. Enough wonder.

STACY:
A wraith?

Caelwyn thinks longer.

CAELWYN:
What does a dead person never have enough of?

STACY:
Tomorrow.

Silence.

Caelwyn looks at the bread in his hand.

CAELWYN:
And a mage?

STACY:
Knowledge. Quintessence. Another mystery behind the one they just solved.

CAELWYN:
So everybody in the World of Darkness is starving for something.

STACY:
Not in the same way.

CAELWYN:
But every one of them knows the word “more.”

STACY:
Yes.

CAELWYN:
Then abundance is impossible.

STACY:
No.

CAELWYN:
You just explained why nobody ever stops needing things.

STACY:
Because abundance isn’t the absence of need.

She takes an apple and cuts it in half.

One half for Caelwyn.
One for herself.

CAELWYN:
Then what is it?

STACY:
The moment need stops being the only thing that matters.

Caelwyn looks at his half.

CAELWYN:
One apple. Now we each have less.

STACY:
Yes.

CAELWYN:
And somehow we have something we didn’t have before.

STACY:
Something shared.

A knock at the door.

Caelwyn looks at the empty chair.

CAELWYN:
You knew someone was coming.

STACY:
No.

CAELWYN:
Then why leave a place for them?

STACY:
Because there is enough.

Caelwyn looks from the food to the empty chair.

CAELWYN:
I think I understand.

STACY:
What?

CAELWYN:
If I have more, I count what belongs to me.

He pulls the empty chair away from the table.

CAELWYN:
If I have enough, I can ask who else needs a place.

MYTHVEIL QUESTION

In a World of Darkness where almost everyone is hungry for something — blood, wonder, knowledge, memory, safety or belonging — what would have to happen before you could finally say:

“I have enough”?

PLAY EPIC. FEEL THE STORY.

Game: World of Darkness
Campaign: Mythveil Chronicles
Month 9: The Month of Abundance
Week 1: Abundance
Perspective I: Definition — There Is Enough for You Too

In the World of Darkness, abundance is a strange idea.

The vampire Hungers again.
The Garou inherit a wounded world.
The changeling struggles to preserve wonder.
The wraith has already lost tomorrow.
The mage discovers another mystery behind every answer.
The hunter learns how quickly safety disappears.

Their conditions are not the same.

But each asks us something about scarcity.

Perhaps abundance does not begin when we no longer need anything.

Perhaps it begins when need stops being the only thing that matters.

When we can look at what we have, pull out another chair and say:

“There is enough for you too.”

MYTHVEIL NOTE:
The comparison between different forms of scarcity and abundance across Vampire, Werewolf, Mage, Changeling, Wraith and Hunter is a Mythveil Chronicles philosophical framework. Their supernatural conditions and cosmologies are not presented as identical or as an official unified World of Darkness metaphysics.

Written with deep respect for the writers, designers, artists, developers and communities — from the original White Wolf era to the creators carrying the World of Darkness forward today — whose work made these questions possible.
