Why would anyone leave home?

My home is warm.

My family is there.

Why would someone sail into storms instead?

Chibi:
Because not every home stays warm.

Mara:
I don’t understand.

Chibi:
Sometimes the food is gone.

Sometimes the work is gone.

Sometimes the people you love are gone.

Sometimes…

hope is gone.

Mara looked down at the sand.

So they leave because they’re brave?

Chibi:
No.

Most leave because staying hurts more.

A small wave reached their feet.

Mara:
Were they afraid?

Chibi:
Every one of them.

Even the greatest captains.

Being brave doesn’t mean you’re not afraid.

It means fear no longer gets to choose for you.

Mara watched a ship disappear beyond the horizon.

Mara:
Then where is home?

Chibi smiled.

Sometimes…

home isn’t the shore you leave behind.

It’s the people who sail beside you.
