🚪 The Sealed Door — Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

Caelwyn and Stacy watch workers examine a sealed stone door and a broken warning inscription underground.

Caelwyn and Stacy watch workers examine a sealed stone door and a broken warning inscription underground.

Deep beneath forgotten ruins…

A circle of scholars stood before an ancient stone door.

No lock.

No handle.

Only weathered runes.

Scholar:
“It hasn’t been opened in two thousand years.”

The room filled with excitement.

Stacy:
“They’re historians.”

Caelwyn:
“They are.”

Stacy:
“They’re searching for knowledge.”

Caelwyn:
“They are.”

She smiled.

Stacy:
“So today is a good day.”

Caelwyn remained silent.

Stacy:
“You disagree.”

He looked at the stone seal.

Caelwyn:
“May I ask you something?”

Stacy:
“Always.”

Caelwyn:
“Why would anyone seal a room…”

A pause.

Caelwyn:
“…instead of destroying what was inside?”

Silence.

Stacy:
“To protect it.”

He slowly nodded.

Caelwyn:
“Perhaps.”

Another pause.

Caelwyn:
“Or perhaps…”

His eyes never left the ancient door.

Caelwyn:
“…to protect everyone else.”

The workers positioned iron bars beneath the seal.

Stone groaned.

Dust filled the air.

A weathered inscription emerged.

Only two words remained.

DO NOT—

Everything after that…

…had been lost.

One scholar laughed.

Scholar:
“Primitive superstition.”

He waved the workers forward.

Stacy:
“They don’t know what the warning said.”

Caelwyn:
“No.”

Stacy:
“Neither do we.”

A long silence.

Stacy:
“So what should we do?”

Caelwyn looked at the broken inscription.

Caelwyn:
“Ask a different question.”

She waited.

Caelwyn:
“Not…”

He looked toward the sealed chamber.

Caelwyn:
“‘What’s inside?’”

Another pause.

Caelwyn:
“But…”

His voice became almost a whisper.

Caelwyn:
“‘Why did our ancestors decide…”

“…that nobody should ever open it?’”

The foreman raised his hammer.

Foreman:
“Break the seal.”

Stone cracked.

Ancient darkness breathed once more.

Stacy:
“So this is where Chaos begins.”

Caelwyn quietly shook his head.

Caelwyn:
“No.”

Stacy:
“No?”

The door slowly opened.

Caelwyn:
“Chaos doesn’t begin when the seal is broken.”

A long silence.

Caelwyn:
“It begins…”

He watched the forgotten chamber open for the first time in centuries.

Caelwyn:
“…when we stop asking why it was sealed.”

Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 4th Edition

Knowledge is not dangerous.

Curiosity is not dangerous.

The danger begins when confidence replaces remembrance—and every warning left by those before us is dismissed as superstition.

If you remember what this felt like—
you already know what you’re missing.

Step back into it.

Or keep missing it.
