The first stone fell.
No one reacted.
Except the old caretaker.
SEAN:
“They’re dismantling the shrine.”
ELJARA:
“They’re preserving it.”
Sean looked at the wooden crates.
Each carved stone had been carefully numbered.
SEAN:
“They’re preserving the stones.”
He pointed toward the empty doorway.
SEAN:
“Not the place.”
The caretaker quietly continued sweeping the broken courtyard.
ELJARA:
“Why are you still cleaning?”
The old man smiled.
CARETAKER:
“Because tomorrow…”
“…there won’t be a shrine left to clean.”
The workers fastened ropes around the oldest pillar.
With a loud crack—
it collapsed.
Every prayer bell rang once.
No wind.
No hands.
Just…
once.
The workers laughed.
WORKER:
“Funny coincidence.”
Sean looked toward the prayer flags.
Not one of them moved.
He turned back to Eljara.
SEAN:
“How many coincidences…”
“…before archaeologists start calling it evidence?”
The caretaker picked up a single broken stone.
He held it like something alive.
CARETAKER:
“They believe they’re saving history.”
A long silence.
Then he quietly added:
CARETAKER:
“They never asked…”
“…what history was protecting.”
Far beyond the mountains—
an entire flock of birds changed direction at once.
No one noticed.
Except Sean.
🜍 THE PRICE OF CIVILIZATION
Sometimes the greatest discovery…
is realizing something was never meant to be uncovered.
If you remember what this felt like —
you already know what you’re missing.
Step back into it.
Or keep missing it.
