“Shouldn’t we ask that?”

“Yes.”

“So what’s the problem?”
Sean looked around the square.
Sean:
“When does curiosity become pride?”
The question lingered.
Eljara:
“I don’t know.”
Sean:
“Neither does anyone else.”
The scholar demonstrated a clever mechanical invention.
The crowd applauded.
Eljara:
“This could change the Empire.”
Sean:
“It will.”
Eljara:
“And that’s a good thing.”
Sean nodded.
Sean:
“It is.”
She looked surprised.

“You’re agreeing with me?”

“Then why do you sound worried?”
Sean closed the book.
Sean:

“Which is?”

Silence.
The applause slowly faded.
Eljara:

Sean:
“No.”
Eljara:
“Pride is.”
Sean smiled.
Sean:
“Exactly.”
