She is drawing her neighborhood.

A diner.

A grocery store.

A factory.

Together they build Tomorrow’s America.

Mara studies the drawing.

Mara: Every house looks the same.

Chibi nods.

Chibi: That’s how they build them.

Around them, the real neighborhood comes alive.

Children ride shiny new bicycles.

Moving trucks unload furniture.

Neighbors wave across fresh white fences.

A radio plays from an open window.

“Tomorrow starts today.”

Mara reaches for a blue piece of chalk.

Instead of another house…

She draws a flower.

Outside the fence.

An older woman smiles as she walks past.

“You forgot the fence.”

Mara looks up.

Mara: I didn’t forget.

The woman laughs politely and continues on.

Mara watches her disappear.

Mara: Why did she think I forgot?

Chibi looks at the flower.

Chibi: Maybe she forgot…

A pause.

“…that flowers don’t need fences.”

Mara smiles.

Then she draws another flower.

And another.

Soon they appear all across the tiny town.

Not in rows.

Not in perfect gardens.

Wherever they choose.

Mara: Does it look wrong?

Chibi studies the drawing.

Then quietly shakes his head.

Chibi: No.

He looks at the perfect neighborhood around them.

Then back to the little blue flowers.

Chibi: It looks alive.

The July sun shines across Tomorrow’s America.

Everything is new.

Everything is beautiful.

Everything is exactly where it should be.

Except the flowers.
