🜍 THE SHIFT NEVER ENDS — WEEK 1 Caelwyn & Stacy The Morning Siren

The siren sounds at 5:30.
Low.
Mechanical.
Nobody reacts.
That’s the strange part.
Workers keep moving through the fog:
- lunch tins
- cigarettes
- heavy boots on wet concrete
Below them, the harbor wakes up.
Cranes move.
Rail carts vanish underground.
Steam rises from iron pipes.
The whole facility breathes.
Not like a factory.
Like a city.
“They move like soldiers,” Caelwyn says.
“No,” Stacy answers.
“Worse.”
He looks at her.
“They’re used to it.”
Another siren echoes across the docks.
Workers split automatically:
- dock crews left
- rail workers below
- maintenance through the steel gate
Nobody hesitates.
Nobody asks questions.
A sign swings slowly near the entrance:
BLACKTIDE SHIPPING & LOGISTICS
KEEP THE SHIFT MOVING
“That sounds threatening,” Caelwyn says.
“That’s because it is.”
The fog shifts.
For a moment they can see:
- rail tunnels cut into the cliffs
- fuel depots
- underground loading platforms
- hundreds of workers
“Do they know?” Caelwyn asks quietly.
Stacy watches the men below.
One worker opens his pay envelope.
Counts silently.
Keeps walking.
“Yes,” she says.
“All of them?”
“No.”
A pause.
“Enough.”
The shift siren sounds again.
The workers disappear deeper into the steel corridors.
Like the structure swallowed them whole.
“Why stay?” Caelwyn asks.
Stacy keeps watching the harbor.
At the smoke.
At the machinery.
At the endless movement.
Then quietly:
“Because leaving doesn’t pay.”
Below them, the machines roar awake.
The harbor keeps moving.
🜍 THE SHIFT NEVER ENDS — Week 1
Nobody called it evil.
It was work.
And work always came first.
If you remember what this felt like —
you already know what you’re missing.
Step back into it.
Or keep missing it.
