**Pulp Cthulhu Noir April — What Else Can We Do**

Sean: They hear it.
Eljara: Yes.
A small crowd gathers around a shop window radio. Calm voice. Clean phrasing.
“Temporary measures extended.”
“Necessary adjustments.”
“Firm leadership in uncertain times.”
Sean: Last month it was restraint.
Eljara: Now it’s reinforcement.
Sean: They promised limits.
Eljara: They redefined them.
The crowd doesn’t protest.
They nod.
Sean: They notice the shift.
Eljara: Of course.
Sean: And they stay.
Eljara: Because the alternative feels worse.
A man mutters, “At least someone’s in charge.”
Sean: That’s the sentence.
Eljara: Yes.
Sean: “At least.”
Eljara: It lowers the bar.
Sean lights a cigarette.
Sean: The contradiction is visible.
Eljara: Visibility is not rebellion.
Sean: The authority expands.
Eljara: They call it responsibility.
Sean: The emergency continues.
Eljara: They call it reality.
A pause.
Sean: So the lie doesn’t need to be hidden.
Eljara: It needs to feel safer.
Sean watches the broadcast end. The crowd disperses calmly.
Sean: The Fool isn’t the one who lies.
Eljara: No.
Sean: It’s the one who believes exposure ends loyalty.
Eljara: Precisely.
The street remains steady. Lights warm. Order intact.
Sean: They prefer certainty.
Eljara: Over complexity.
Sean: Even if it bends the truth.
Eljara: Especially then.
No chanting.
No unrest.
No spectacle.
Just acceptance.
April doesn’t win through secrecy.
It wins through preference.
