The village had become quiet again.
Children laughed near the shore.
Fishing boats rocked gently with the tide.
Nothing looked extraordinary anymore.
Mara watched the old woman who had danced during the ceremony.
MARA:
“Were you afraid?”
The woman smiled.
OLD WOMAN:
“No.”
Mara frowned.
MARA:
“But they said a Loa rode you.”
The old woman nodded gently.
OLD WOMAN:
“They did.”
Silence.
Mara looked puzzled.
MARA:
“Where did you go?”
The old woman rested her hand on Mara’s shoulder.
OLD WOMAN:
“I never left.”
“I simply stopped holding the oars for a little while.”
Chibi watched a small fishing boat drifting with the current.
He pointed toward it.
CHIBI:
“The boat is still the same.”
The woman followed his gaze.
OLD WOMAN:
“Yes.”
A warm breeze crossed the beach.
The little boat rocked peacefully.
CHIBI:
“But someone could steal the boat.”
The woman’s smile faded.
Not into fear.
Into memory.
OLD WOMAN:
“They could.”
She looked toward the endless sea.
OLD WOMAN:
“There is a difference…”
“…between opening your hands…”
“…and having them forced open.”
The waves rolled softly onto the shore.
Mara whispered.
MARA:
“Is that freedom?”
The old woman nodded.
OLD WOMAN:
“Freedom is choosing…”
“…who holds the reins.”
The sea answered with another slow wave.
As though it had always known…
the difference.
🜍 WHO HOLDS THE REINS?
Across the world, people describe moments when the ordinary self grows quiet.
Some call them prayer.
Some call them trance.
Some call them spirit.
Perhaps the deepest question is not what we name the experience—
but whether we remain free to choose it.
If you remember what this felt like—
you already know what you’re missing.
Sail into a world where history, philosophy and living traditions shape every voyage.
