The music was still playing.

Eljara:
“They’re happy.”

Sean:
“Are they?”

Below them the village celebrated.

The same songs.

The same dances.

The same endless summer.

Eljara:
“You’re always suspicious of happiness.”

Sean:
“No.”

Eljara:
“Then what’s wrong?”

Sean pointed toward the musicians.

Sean:
“When does a song end?”

Eljara:
“When it reaches the last note.”

Sean:
“Then why are they still playing?”

Silence.

The fiddles continued.

The drums continued.

The dancers continued.

No pause.

No silence.

No ending.

Eljara:
“Maybe they don’t want the night to end.”

Sean:
“Of course they don’t.”

Eljara:
“Then what’s the problem?”

Sean watched the crowd below.

Sean:
“If the greatest night of your life happened tonight…”

A pause.

Sean:
“Would you want tomorrow?”

The answer came immediately.

Eljara:
“No.”

Sean nodded.

Sean:
“Exactly.”

The festival bells rang again.

The crowd cheered again.

The musicians began another song.

Always another.

Eljara:
“So wanting more is wrong?”

Sean:
“No.”

Eljara:
“Then what is?”

The old bard looked toward the horizon.

Dark clouds gathering at last.

Sean:
“Believing more is forever.”

Silence.

The words lingered.

Eljara:
“We wanted summer.”

Sean:
“Yes.”

Eljara:
“We wanted abundance.”

Sean:
“Yes.”

Eljara:
“We wanted joy.”

Sean:
“Yes.”

Eljara:
“And that brought us here.”

Sean smiled sadly.

Sean:
“No.”

Eljara:
“No?”

Sean:
“What brought us here was refusing to stop.”

The first wind moved across the fields.

The first cool wind in weeks.

Flower petals drifted downward.

Not growing.

Falling.

For the first time all month.

Eljara:
“The End Times began the moment humanity decided that every blessing should last forever.”

Sean watched the petals fall.

Sean:
“Yes.”

Thunder rolled across the distant hills.

The music faltered.

Just for a moment.

The village looked up.

Confused.

Afraid.

Eljara:
“And Death comes because someone has to say enough.”

For the first time all month, Sean smiled.

A genuine smile.

Sean:
“No.”

Eljara:
“No?”

Sean:
“Death comes because the world finally remembers how.”

The thunder rolled again.

The petals continued falling.

And for the first time all summer—

silence began to return.

⚒️ Month 6 — The Old Ways

⚒️ Week 4 — The Last Harvest

Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 4th Edition

Death and the End Times come because they must.

And because, long before they arrived, humanity spent centuries teaching the world why they were needed.
