🜍 TRICKSTER — WEEK 1 (Pulp Cthulhu) Caelwyn & Stacy The Joke That Didn’t End

The tide is wrong.

Stacy stands at the edge of the exposed shore.

“This shouldn’t be visible,” she says.

Caelwyn is already looking at the stone.

Half-buried.

Carved.

“It looks recent,” she continues.

“But the erosion says otherwise.”

He crouches.

Runs his hand over the surface.

The lines are shallow.

Uneven.

Careless.

“Not careless,” he says.

Stacy kneels beside him.

“Then what?”

He traces a curve.

It loops.

Breaks.

Repeats.

“Someone wasn’t trying to write something,” he says.

A pause.

“They were trying something out.”

The wind moves across the water.

Cold.

Salted.

Stacy studies the carving.

“It resembles ritual notation.”

Caelwyn nods.

“Yes.”

“But incomplete.”

She frowns.

“No… not incomplete.”

Another pause.

“Interrupted.”

The tide pulls back further.

More lines appear.

More loops.

More fragments.

Patterns that almost connect.

But don’t.

“These aren’t mistakes,” Stacy says.

“No.”

“They’re deliberate.”

Caelwyn stands.

“Trial and error.”

The water shifts.

Too quickly.

It creeps forward—

then stops.

Like it hit something invisible.

Stacy watches closely.

“That’s not tide behavior.”

“No.”

She closes her notebook.

“April traditions rely on limits.”

Caelwyn glances at her.

“The joke ends.”

“Yes.”

“There’s a reveal.”

“Yes.”

The wind dies.

Total stillness.

Even the water holds.

Stacy looks back at the carving.

“It doesn’t feel like it ended,” she says.

Caelwyn points to a line.

“This repeats.”

Another.

“This adapts.”

She leans closer.

He’s right.

It’s not random.

It’s learning.

The tide moves again.

Closer this time.

Stopping just at the edge of the carving.

Waiting.

Stacy exhales slowly.

“That’s not a symbol.”

“No.”

“That’s a process.”

Caelwyn looks out at the sea.

“And processes don’t need meaning.”

“They need time.”

The water touches the first line.

Barely.

Then pulls back again.

“What if the joke doesn’t stop?” Stacy asks.

A long silence.

Caelwyn watches the pattern.

“It stops being a joke,” he says.

“And becomes what?”

He doesn’t look away.

“A method.”
