“You just don’t like it.”

She looks down again.

Chibi doesn’t move.

“You didn’t even flip it.”

“Did I have to?”

She looks at the coin again.

Something feels…

already decided.

“That’s not choosing,” she says.

“No.”

“Then what is it?”

He leans forward slightly.

“It’s what works.”

Silence.

Mara pulls her knees closer.

---

“That’s not fair.”

---

“It doesn’t have to be.”

---

She tries again.

---

“…tails.”

Chibi opens his hand.

Heads.

---

Mara stares at it.

“That’s wrong.”

“No.”

---

“It is.”

---

“It works.”

---

A pause.

---

She looks at him.

---

“That’s not the same thing.”

He shrugs.

---

“It is now.”

Silence.

Mara looks back at the coin.

At the place where a choice should be.

---

“I don’t like this game,” she says quietly.

Chibi nods.

---

“Yeah.”

---

“Can we stop?”

He doesn’t answer right away.

---

Instead he watches her.

---

“Try something else,” he says.

---

She hesitates.

---

Opens her mouth.

---

“…that’s not what I meant.”

She freezes.

---

“I didn’t—”

---

She stops.

---

“That’s the same thing.”

---

“Yeah.”

---

Her voice is smaller now.

---

“That keeps happening.”

---

“Yeah.”

---

“Why?”

---

Chibi tilts his head.

“It works.”

Mara shakes her head.

---

“That’s not enough.”

---

“It is.”

A pause.

---

“If it works, it stays.”

Silence.

---

Mara looks down one last time.

---

At the coin.

At the space between choices.

---

And now—

it doesn’t feel confusing anymore.

It feels empty.

---

Like there was never anything else.

---

“Chibi…”

---

“Yeah.”

---

“Was it always like this?”

---

He thinks about it.

---

Then shakes his head.

---

“No.”

---

A small pause.

---

“It just stopped changing.”

---

Mara doesn’t answer.

---

Because she already knows.

---

Nothing is repeating anymore.

---

Nothing is getting worse.

---

It’s just…

staying.

---

And that’s why there’s nothing left

to pick.
