Sean:
“We’ve handled worse.”

Eljara:
“This isn’t worse.”

A pause.

Sean watches the clearing.

“They’re not forcing him.”

“No.”

“They’re not even watching him.”

“No.”

“They’re just… doing it.”

Eljara nods.

“Yes.”

Sean exhales.

“That’s not right.”

“No.”

“That’s not human.”

“No.”

A long pause.

Sean’s voice lowers.

“He knows.”

“Yes.”

“And he still goes.”

“Yes.”

Sean shakes his head.

“That’s the part I don’t get.”

Eljara looks at him.

“That’s the only part that works.”

Silence.
