🜍 MASKS — WEEK 2 (Pulp Cthulhu/WW2 Cthulhu) Caelwyn & Stacy Shield or Signal

The storm doesn’t hit the harbor.
It circles.
Boats rock gently, but no waves break the docks.
Wind presses inward — then stalls.
Below the balcony, villagers move with purpose.
Not panic.
Masks.
Wood. Bone. Woven fiber.
Each lifted with both hands.
Caelwyn
They’re bracing.
Stacy
No.
A masked figure turns toward the sea.
Not away from it.
Stacy
They’re positioning.
Lightning forks across the horizon.
The masked figures hold steady.
No chanting. No spectacle.
Just orientation.
The wind shifts.
Not inland.
Not toward the houses.
Away.
Silence follows.
The masks come off slowly.
No applause. No relief.
Completion.
Later, in a back room lit by a single oil lamp, Stacy spreads photographs across a table.
Different coast.
Different year.
Different ritual.
Same structure.
Caelwyn
That’s the same design.
Stacy
Almost.
She rotates one image.
The grooves align.
Another image: similar mask.
But the mouth carved wider.
The eyes hollowed through.
This one faces inward.
Caelwyn
That’s not protection.
Stacy
No.
A beat.
Caelwyn
Invitation.
Stacy nods.
Stacy
Same architecture. Different direction.
Thunder rolls again — distant.
Caelwyn
So the mask doesn’t decide.
Stacy
No.
She closes the folder.
Stacy
It’s which way you turn it.
Outside, the wind waits.
