A short discussion between Caelwyn & Stacy — Week 3
Caelwyn:
I don’t think time is broken.
Stacy:
No.
If it were, we’d see collapse.
This is drift.
Caelwyn:
Which is harder to fight.
Stacy:
Because drift doesn’t look like an emergency.
It looks like people coping.
Caelwyn:
Let’s be precise.
First working rule.
Stacy:
Time isn’t the enemy.
Caelwyn:
Good.
Second.
Stacy:
Calendars aren’t neutral.
Caelwyn:
They’re rituals people pretend are physics.
Stacy:
Exactly.
Shared belief engines.
Caelwyn:
So acting on symbolic dates—
Stacy:
—amplifies everything.
Order and damage.
Caelwyn:
Pro: predictability.
Stacy:
Con: consequences you can’t roll back.
(A pause.)
Caelwyn:
Third rule, then.
We stop looking for resets.
Stacy:
Because resets encourage denial.
Caelwyn:
And denial breeds conspiracies.
Stacy:
People would rather believe in a secret fix
than accept unfinished time.
Caelwyn:
So false hope is worse than no hope.
Stacy:
In this case?
Yes.
Caelwyn:
Fourth rule.
Stacy:
Continuity over correction.
Caelwyn:
That sounds like surrender.
Stacy:
It’s adaptation.
There’s a difference.
Caelwyn:
Pro: fewer mass reactions.
Stacy:
Con: normalized damage.
Caelwyn:
Nothing free, then.
Stacy:
Never is.
(She closes her notebook.)
Caelwyn:
Last rule.
Stacy:
Agency matters more than accuracy.
Caelwyn:
Say that again.
Stacy:
If people can act,
they don’t need perfect explanations.
Caelwyn:
Which reduces panic.
Stacy:
But increases small rituals.
Caelwyn:
Personal ones.
Stacy:
Safer than synchronized belief.
(The clock ticks.)
Caelwyn:
So what do we actually do?
Stacy:
We slow things down.
Caelwyn:
Institutionally?
Stacy:
Culturally.
Caelwyn:
No resets. No hero moments.
Stacy:
Just working rules.
Caelwyn:
For a clock that doesn’t care what time we think it is.
(They don’t correct the clock.)
