❓ If a book about Antarctica started watching you back… would you still turn the page?
Mara finds Chibi under the blankets again.
A flashlight.
A notebook.
A PDF open on his tablet — Beyond the Mountains of Madness.
His eyes are too wide for someone who claims he’s “just reading.”
“Chibi… what did you download this time?”
He lifts the tablet slowly, like it might bite.
“It’s supposed to be a campaign book, Mara.
But I think it’s… leaking.”
The screen flickers.
Snow.
Wind.
Shapes moving between pages that don’t have pictures.
Mara squints.
“Is that… a mountain?”
Chibi shakes his head.
“No.
The mountain is fine.
It’s what’s behind it I’m worried about.”
A whisper crawls across the speaker —
dry, thin, like frost learning to speak:
“…we remember the first expedition…”
Mara grabs his arm.
“Chibi, CLOSE IT.”
He taps the screen — nothing happens.
The PDF refuses to close.
The scrolling bar slides on its own, deeper and deeper into chapters he didn’t buy, chapters no one wrote.
“Something followed the last expedition home,” Chibi whispers.
“It’s still learning.
Still hungry.”
The flashlight dims.
The temperature drops.
A single snowflake lands on the tablet’s glass —
from inside the screen.
❓ If an Antarctic secret tried to read YOU… would you finish the story, or drop the book before it remembers your name?
