Pulp Cthulhu · Spooky October · Month 10 · Week 4 · Sean & Eljara

SEAN: “The photographer thought he’d seen one monster in the Louisiana swamp.”

ELJARA: “Then he discovered Bellwether Landing. A village that had disappeared from every modern map.”

SEAN: “The houses weren’t abandoned. The lights were burning. Someone had repaired the chapel.”

ELJARA: “And the tide was rising much farther inland than it should.”

SEAN: “Then something emerged from the water.”

ELJARA: “Grey-green skin. Enormous eyes. Gills. Long, powerful arms.”

SEAN: “Captain Harlow fired his shotgun.”

ELJARA: “The creature staggered.”

SEAN: “Then stood upright again.”

ELJARA: “And six more climbed onto the boardwalk.”

SEAN: “Deep Ones. The ancient beings from Lovecraft’s The Shadow over Innsmouth.”

ELJARA: “But the true horror wasn’t their appearance.”

SEAN: “Evelyn found her missing brother among them.”

ELJARA: “His body was changing. Yet he recognised her.”

SEAN: “He whispered, ‘I’m still me.’”

ELJARA: “Then the villagers began singing.”

SEAN: “And something enormous moved beneath the flooded streets.”

ELJARA: “The Deep Ones weren’t simply attacking a village.”

SEAN: “They were the village.”

ELJARA: “Generations of bargains, secrets and families connected to the sea.”

SEAN: “In Pulp Cthulhu, you can fight. You can escape. You might even rescue someone.”

ELJARA: “But what if the person you’ve come to save no longer wants to leave?”

SEAN: “And what if the monster is your own brother?”

ELJARA: “So here is our question.”

SEAN: “If you discovered that your family had made a bargain with beings beneath the sea, would you expose the truth?”

ELJARA: “Even if revealing it destroyed the lives of people who had done nothing wrong?”

SEAN: “The darkness wasn’t empty.”

ELJARA: “Something has been living beneath us all along.”
