The first thing Chibi did was draw a moustache on Saltport.
“Chibi!”
“What?”
“That’s a map!” Mara protested.
“Better map.”
“I’m trying to show you how people live in different places. Cities, settlements, ships.”
“Can I live on a ship?”
“Of course.”
“With a cannon?”
“No!”
“Two?”
Mara pointed to Phareflaw Lighthouse. “It helps ships bring supplies to Saltport. Captain McAlgae even wants to turn her riverboat into a tenderhold.”
“She breaks her boat?”
“She uses the hull to build a home.”
“But it won’t sail!”
“No.”
“I’ll keep the wheel.”
“What for?”
“To steer my bedroom.”
“Bedrooms don’t move!”
“Mine will.”
Mara sighed. “Travellers connect all these places, Chibi.”
He folded a paper boat. “Delivery!”
“What are you delivering?”
“Biscuits.”
“Saltport needs important supplies!”
“Biscuits important.”
He glued the boat to the lighthouse on the map.
“CHIBI! Why?”
“So it won’t sink.”
Mara stared at him, then burst out laughing.
Perhaps the world didn’t need everyone to live the same way. But somebody certainly needed to keep Chibi away from the glue.
