⚒️ The Old Ways 🎲 PLAY EPIC. FEEL THE STORY. Game: Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 4th Edition Campaign: Mythveil Chronicles Theme: June · The Old Ways · Forgotten Songs · The Things Beneath Tradition

The children know the song.

Nobody knows what it means.

Every summer they sing it.

Every summer they dance it.

Every summer they repeat words older than memory.

And nobody asks why.

The ribbons are woven.

The flowers are gathered.

The standing stones receive their offerings.

The tradition survives.

The meaning does not.

“Do you understand it?”

Mara watches the children dancing around the ribbon pole.

“No.”

Chibi smiles.

“Neither do they.”

The song continues.

The children know every verse.

Every step.

Every movement.

But not the reason.

The village priest tolerates it.

The villagers celebrate it.

The children inherit it.

Year after year.

Generation after generation.

Like a message being carried through time long after its sender disappeared.

“Why do they sing it?”

“Because their parents did.”

Mara looks toward the distant standing stones.

Ancient.

Silent.

Watching.

“And before that?”

The summer wind carries the melody across the fields.

“Before that?”

Chibi points toward the hill.

“That’s where the interesting questions begin.”

Silence.

The dangerous thing is not the song.

The dangerous thing is not the ritual.

The dangerous thing is not the stone.

The dangerous thing is curiosity.

What did it mean?

Why did they do it?

Who started it?

What was forgotten?

One question becomes another.

Then another.

Then another.

And suddenly tradition becomes investigation.

The old stories know this.

A forgotten symbol.

A forgotten path.

A forgotten prayer.

Most people ignore them.

Some people become curious.

And curiosity rarely stops where it begins.

“Do you think the old ways are evil?”

Chibi answers immediately.

“No.”

The answer surprises Mara.

The wind moves through the wheat.

The children continue singing.

The standing stones remain silent.

“Then what are they?”

A long pause.

“Old.”

Nothing more.

Nothing less.

A forest can shelter you.

A forest can hide Beastmen.

A river can feed a village.

A river can drown it.

An ancient tradition can preserve wisdom.

Or preserve a mistake.

Age alone proves nothing.

The children finish their song.

The crowd applauds.

The festival continues.

Nobody asks what the words mean.

Nobody asks why the dance exists.

Nobody asks why flowers are still left beside a stone older than the Empire.

Perhaps that is wisdom.

Or perhaps it is fear.

Mara watches the standing stones one last time.

“What happens if somebody finally remembers?”

For the first time all day—

Chibi looks uncertain.

The smile disappears.

And that frightens her more than any answer.

“That’s what the stories are trying to warn us about.”

The music begins again.

The children laugh.

The summer wind carries forgotten words across the fields.

And somewhere beneath the Old World’s oldest traditions—

something waits patiently to be remembered.

⚒️ Week 3 — The Old Ways

Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 4th Edition

The songs remain.

The dances remain.

The stones remain.

The meanings fade.

And sooner or later someone always asks the question that should have remained forgotten.

If you remember what this felt like —
you already know what you’re missing.

Step back into it.

Or keep missing it.
