Mara: Yes.

He frowns slightly.

Chibi: So if they hadn’t gone—

Mara: It still would have happened.

Silence.

Chibi: That’s not a trick.

Mara: No.

Chibi: That’s planning.

Mara nods.

Chibi: When I always pick the red marble first—

Mara: Yes.

Chibi: Someone who knows me can plan for that.

Mara: Exactly.

Chibi looks down the parallel rails.

Chibi: They run next to each other.

Mara: Yes.

Chibi: They don’t touch.

Mara: No.

Chibi: But the train still moves.

Mara: Yes.

A small pause.

Chibi: So you didn’t stop it.

Mara: No.

Chibi: But you weren’t useless.

Mara: No.

Chibi: You were… counted.

Mara: Yes.

He absorbs that quietly.

Chibi: The ritual wasn’t to open something.

Mara: No.

Chibi: It was to make everyone move.

Mara: Yes.

Chibi: And someone else moved too.

Mara: Yes.

The signal light changes once, then steadies.

Chibi: So the Fool isn’t the one who runs.

Mara: No.

Chibi: It’s the one who thinks he’s the only runner.

Mara nods.

Chibi: And the board—

Mara: —is bigger than the pieces.

Silence returns.

No spectacle.

No shouting.

Just infrastructure.

Chibi: That’s worse than being tricked.

Mara: Yes.

Chibi: Because it means the game doesn’t need you.

Mara looks down the rails disappearing into distance.

Mara: It only needs you to behave as expected.

The tram hums past.

Parallel lines.

Perfectly spaced.

The system doesn’t mock.

It counts.
