Mara sits by the window longer than usual.
Not watching the street.
Listening.
Lights flicker on across the way.
One by one.
Some warm.
Some already tired.
She presses her forehead to the glass.
It’s cold.
“Tomorrow isn’t tomorrow yet,” she says quietly.
No one answers.
Outside, footsteps pass.
A laugh.
A door closing too hard.
Someone practicing a song they haven’t learned all the way through.
Mara counts the days in her head.
Then stops.
Counting doesn’t help anymore.
She decides to wait instead.
Not the loud kind.
Not the kind that demands.
The kind that hopes
without proof.
She smiles, just a little.
Because almost still feels safe.
❓ What are you quietly hoping for — before you know if it will arrive?
