🜍 Previously on Enemy in Shadows — “The Coin That Shouldn’t Have Turned”

They were meant to die before sunrise.
Chains ready.
Torches waiting.
A sentence carved in silence.

The Witchhammer cells groaned with old smoke and older screams.
No one leaves them except as ash.

But Bögenhafen has its own gods.
Its own rules.
Its own ways of bending fate around those who stray too close to its rot.

Moments before dawn, the door opened —
not with the snap of zealots,
but with the careful, practiced quiet
of men pretending to be the monsters they replaced.

Witchhammer armor.
Witchhammer keys.
But not Witchhammer eyes.

When they spoke, it wasn’t prayer.
It was a warning wrapped in a smirk only one god would approve of.

“Not a sound,” one whispered.
“Some doors open for the wrong reasons.”

The chains fell.
Cloaks were shoved into trembling hands.
And the heroes were marched down the corridor
with flawless brutality —
the performance of men who survived by making truth look like theater.

Scarlet waited beneath the stinking chamber pot.
Bruised just enough to fool anyone who didn’t love her.
She lifted the grate.

A tunnel.
A throat of brick and filth.
A path no righteous soul would ever choose —
which meant only one patron could have carved it.

They descended.
Cold sludge.
Breathing stone.
Rats staring with that unsettling stillness
that belongs to animals who see more than they should.

Then the mark appeared on the wall:
a split coin, chalked fast, half in shadow.
Ranald’s grin, disguised as a symbol.

A hooded figure stepped from the dark.
Not threatening.
Not kind.
Just honest in a way Bögenhafen rarely is.

“You didn’t survive the Morrmoon by strength,” he said.
“Or faith.
You survived because luck tripped over you —
and Ranald watches those the world tries to discard.”

He led them deeper,
to a chamber where candles bent sideways
as if leaning in to eavesdrop.

There, the bargain was carved:

“Name the hand that pulled darkness over this city.
Expose the one behind the ritual.
Do that…
and Ranald’s circle will claim you as their own.
We will rewrite your guilt
faster than Sigmar can shout heresy.”

A two-faced coin spun between them.
A thin ringing filled the chamber,
like fate deciding whether to blink.

“But choose soon,” he added.
“The Witchhammer is already hunting.
And luck refuses to wait.”

The heroes were left alone —
with fear, with freedom,
with a choice sharp enough to cut a soul in half.

🜍 Now…

The pyres crackle in the courtyard.
The priests sharpen their accusations.
The Morrmoon hangs like a watching blade.
And somewhere beneath the cobblestones,
a coin is still spinning.

❓ When salvation comes from a god who cheats…
do you trust the trick, or the fire?
