A yellow line crossed the laboratory floor.
Nothing guarded it.
No wall.
No weapon.
No daemon.
Just a line.
**Stacy**
I’m not supposed to cross it?
**Caelwyn**
No.
**Stacy**
Why?
**Caelwyn**
Does it matter?
Stacy stared at the line.
Then stepped across.
Nothing happened.
She waited.
Still nothing.
**Stacy**
That’s it?
**Caelwyn**
No.
Something happened.
**Stacy**
What?
**Caelwyn**
You learnt that you could cross it.
—
The next boundary was harder.
Crossing it helped her win.
The next was forbidden knowledge.
She opened it.
The answer was real.
The next was medical.
She broke protocol.
The patient lived.
Again and again…
the boundary fell.
And every time…
something good waited beyond it.
**Stacy**
So why should I respect the next one?
**Caelwyn**
Exactly.
The first boundary feels dangerous.
The second feels easier.
Eventually…
you stop asking whether you should cross them.
Because you’ve crossed them before.
And nothing terrible happened.
Worse…
you were rewarded.
You became stronger.
You learnt more.
You saved someone.
You became better.
**Stacy**
So the boundaries start looking pointless.
**Caelwyn**
Eventually…
they start looking like chains.
—
Stacy looked back at the first yellow line.
It seemed absurd now.
**Stacy**
And when someone tells me I’ve gone too far?
**Caelwyn**
What have you learnt from everyone who told you that before?
Silence.
**Stacy**
That they were wrong.
**Caelwyn**
Exactly.
So perhaps they’re afraid.
Perhaps they’re weak.
Perhaps they’re jealous.
Perhaps they simply don’t understand what you’ve become capable of.
And if they try to stop you…
**Stacy**
They become another obstacle.
Caelwyn nodded.
**Caelwyn**
Khorne calls it strength.
Tzeentch calls it knowledge.
Nurgle calls it life.
Slaanesh calls it perfection.
But the fire whispers the same thing.
Again.
Again.
Again.
**You were right.**
Stacy looked towards the road ahead.
Another boundary waited there.
And beyond it…
another possibility.
**Stacy**
From where we started…
this looks like falling.
**Caelwyn**
And from where you’re standing?
Stacy smiled.
Not cruelly.
Not desperately.
She simply looked certain.
**Stacy**
It feels like I’m rising.
Because if every boundary I break makes me stronger…
if every taboo I abandon brings me closer…
if every victory proves them wrong…
**why should I stop?**

Warhammer Fantasy, Warhammer 30,000 and Warhammer 40,000 call it the Path to Glory.
The first boundary is difficult.
The next is easier.
Eventually, the boundaries themselves begin to look like chains.
And every victory feeds the fire.
**From the outside, they see you falling.**
**From the inside, you are finally rising.**
