Vines covered every wall.
Flowers burst through concrete.
Roots split the floor beneath their feet.
Everything was alive.
Too alive.
Stacy stared at a plant that had crushed its own support frame.
“People always talk about saving nature.”
Caelwyn nodded.
“And?”
She gestured around the greenhouse.
“Nobody talks about stopping it.”
A silence followed.
Outside, the city celebrated Midsummer.
Music.
Laughter.
Life.
More of everything.
Caelwyn touched a flowering vine slowly strangling the plants around it.
“People confuse life with goodness.”
Stacy frowned.
“Isn’t it?”
The blossom was magnificent.
Beautiful.
Hungry.
Growing.
Taking.
Never stopping.
“The Wyld creates.”
Caelwyn’s voice was calm.
“It doesn’t know what enough means.”
The greenhouse creaked.
A support beam bent.
Leaves spilled downward.
For a moment Stacy finally understood.
The bill isn’t punishment.
The bill is balance.
The moment the world quietly says:
Enough.
