The royal seal blackened.

Ash drifted into the morning air.

ELJARA:
“It did.”
The captain released the last burning fragment.
It disappeared into the harbor.
SEAN:
“And today?”
Eljara watched the ashes settle upon the tide.

“Today…”
“…it proves he remembers the wrong war.”
A long silence.
The harbor continued trading.
Sugar.
Rum.
Timber.
Gold.
As though nothing had changed.
Sean looked toward the merchant ships.
SEAN:
“So history changes with ink.”
Eljara slowly shook her head.
ELJARA:
“No.”
“History stays.”
“Only governments rewrite the titles.”
The wind carried the burned ashes across the bay.
They should have scattered.
Instead—
they gathered for a single moment above the water.
Turning slowly together.
Like black birds with no wings.
Then they vanished beneath the tide.
Sean watched the empty sea.
SEAN:
“Did you see that?”
Eljara never looked away.

“The King withdrew his permission.”
Another pause.
ELJARA:
“The sea didn’t.”
Far beyond the harbor—
a lone ship drifted against the current.
No sails.
No oars.
No crew.
Yet it sailed.
Exactly where it had always been going.
