The wind moved through the branches.
Children laughed nearby.
Music drifted across the park.
The world still felt alive.
Yet another leaf fell.
Then another.
Tiny things.
Easy to ignore.

Mara frowned.
“Why is it letting go?”
Across the path, a gardener quietly trimmed dead branches and cleared away old flowers.
Chibi watched him work.
“So the garden survives.”
The gardener filled his wheelbarrow with things that had once been beautiful.

Branches.
Things that had reached their season.
“It looks mean.”
Chibi shook his head.
“No.”

“It looks sad.”

The wind carried the leaf from Mara’s hand.
She watched it dance across the path.
Then disappear into the grass.

She smiled.
