He doesn’t answer.

Mara looks toward the window.

People outside move.

Talk.

Pause.

Continue.

Same rhythm.

“They’re doing it too,” she says quietly.

“Yeah.”

“They think they’re choosing.”

---

“Yeah.”

Silence.

Mara pulls her knees closer.

“That’s not right.”

“No.”

---

“Then why doesn’t anyone stop?”

Chibi watches the street.

“Because it works.”

---

She shakes her head.

---

“That’s not enough.”

---

“It is.”

---

A pause.

“If it works, you don’t question it.”

Mara looks down again.

At the space where a choice should be.

“But I remember picking,” she says.

Chibi looks at her.

“You remember it that way.”

Silence.

Mara’s voice is smaller now.

“That’s not the same thing.”

“Then what is it?” she asks.

Chibi tilts his head slightly.

“It’s your turn.”

She frowns.

“That doesn’t make sense.”

He looks at her.

“It doesn’t have to.”

Silence.

---

Outside, people keep moving.

---

Everything fits.

---

Nothing stops.

---

Nothing changes.

Mara watches it all.
