🜍 Sean & Eljara — “The Gift That Was Never Meant to Be Kept”
Coventry · Winter Field Post (EN)
❓ What kind of food stops being food the moment you keep it for yourself?
Sean doesn’t ask how sweet they are.
He asks how they’re given.
Small cakes.
Rough crust.
Nothing decorative.
Nothing trying to impress.
Eljara turns one over in her hands, careful.
“These weren’t treats,” she says.
“They were messages.”
Sean nods.
Godcakes weren’t baked to be eaten on the spot.
They were meant to be passed on.
From godparent to child.
From someone who paid attention
to someone who needed to be seen.
“They only work,” Sean says,
“if you know who they’re for.”
Eljara smiles, just a little.
“That’s why you don’t make them for yourself.”
She wraps one carefully.
Not to preserve it.
To deliver it.
This kind of food doesn’t reward hunger.
It rewards recognition.
Coventry didn’t invent luxury here.
It practiced care.
And care, like any good recipe,
fails the moment it becomes generic.
❓ Who would you give this to — not because it’s tradition,
but because you know them well enough to choose?
