“The Offer” WFRPG / The Old World

The city has never looked more alive.

Lanterns burn through the rain.

Music rolls across Altdorf in endless waves.

Crowds fill every square.

Every bridge.

Every street.

The city is glowing.

And Sean looks worried.

Eljara:
“Everyone looks happy.”

Fireworks explode above the Reik.

The crowd screams with delight.

For one moment—

the entire city feels alive.

Sean watches carefully.

Sean:
“That’s why the offer comes now.”

Eljara turns toward him.

Eljara:
“The offer?”

Another firework.

Bigger.

Brighter.

Louder.

The crowd cheers again.

Sean:
“The moment someone promises more.”

Silence.

A worker drinks because he’s exhausted.

It helps.

A soldier seeks excitement because peace feels empty.

It helps.

A noble chases luxury because ordinary pleasure feels dull.

It helps.

Everything works.

That’s the danger.

Eljara:
“They think Chaos begins with corruption.”

Sean shakes his head.

Sean:
“No.”

Rain falls through lantern light.

The city keeps accelerating.

Sean:
“It begins with success.”

The drink works.

The celebration works.

The obsession works.

The violence works.

That’s why people return.

Below them a performer crosses a rope suspended between buildings.

The crowd holds its breath.

One mistake means death.

When he reaches the other side—

the crowd erupts.

For three seconds.

Then they want something bigger.

Something stronger.

Something more.

Eljara:
“The city is starving.”

Sean watches the crowds carefully.

Sean:
“Worse.”

A pause.

“It’s eating.”

The music grows louder.

The drums grow faster.

The fireworks grow brighter.

The city consumes excitement the way a furnace consumes coal.

Never asking:

Is this good?

Only asking:

Is there more?

Eljara:
“What does Chaos actually offer?”

The rain intensifies.

The city roars beneath them.

Sean:
“Khorne offers rage.”

Another cheer.

“Nurgle offers relief.”

Another firework.

“Tzeentch offers possibility.”

The light reflects in the rain.

“And Slaanesh?”

Sean smiles sadly.

“Slaanesh offers more.”

Silence.

Because the answer is complete.

More beauty.

More sensation.

More perfection.

More feeling.

More life.

Until the pursuit becomes more important than the reason for pursuing it.

The city celebrates beneath them.

Magnificent.

Radiant.

Ecstatic.

And somewhere in the crowd—

someone is already asking for more than the world can give.
